This excursion begins at 6:30am with transfer from your Puno hotel to the port. Then by motor boat (35 feet long with a covered section in case of rain or cold weather, 25 individual seats) we visit the Uros floating Islands. Stepping on them feels very much like a water bed (but it is quite safe). We can watch the reed houses and meet the islanders who are friendly people. They are descendents of one of the oldest South American groups. Rides on traditional reed boats can be arranged. In the mornings these islands can be crowded even though we try to always avoid this. We visit two of the 60 islands before continuing on to Taquile Island.
After a relaxed navigation of extra 2 ½ hours, we get the chance to enjoy the spectacular views offered by Lake Titicaca. Finally we arrive to Taquile island, home to a unique community. A long path gradually ascending will take us to the picturesque villaje and the views are unique and magic, (45 min. hike approx). We visit the communal cooperative where you will find handy craft textiles of high quality. You’ll have lunch at one of the many local restaurants where the views are magnificent. Then we descend 500 steps to the main port of the island. At 2:30pm approx. you return to Puno City (3 hour return journey). At 5.30pm arrival in Puno, where you will be transfer you to your Puno hotel.
Duration: 10 hours and 30 minutes. Distance: 75 kilometers round trip (takes 3 hours, 10 min. One way to Taquile, By Classic Motor Boat = 11 km/hour)
