PACKAGE DETAILS

DAY 1: CUSCO- ABRA MALAGA - SANTA MARIA

We pick you up from your hotel between 7:30-7:50am in the morning. You start your mountain biking adventure for 2 – 3 hours approx. near Malaga Mountain. You arrive in Santa Maria, where you can see a beautiful landscape.

DAY 2: SANTA MARIA - SANTA TERESA

Early in the morning, get ready to your first day trekking in the jungle. The first three hours will be climbing up, so we start early. Later it’s easy hiking just crossing the forest with fruit and coca plantation, crossing rivers, walking on a short part of an Inka trail and visiting some archaeological sites. In the afternoon, after 7 hours trekking we will arrive to Santa Teresa village (1990m.a.s.l.).

DAY 3: SANTA TERESA- AGUAS CALIENTES

In the morning we start our second day trekking and finishing around 3pm in Aguas Calientes. Walk for 3 hours by a dirt road and two more by the side of the train rail. This night we will have an overnight at chosen hotel with private bathroom.

DAY 4: MACHU PICCHU-CUSCO

Very early you start to hike to Machu Picchu archaeological site with a good chance to see the sunrise. Later, you have a guiding tour for two hours and some free time, perhaps to visit the Huayna Picchu and other places. Get the bus down to return to Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon, transfer by train to Ollantayatambo, where you take the bus to Cusco.

What you need to bring/carry:

  • A backpack with a change of clothes for the whole period of the trek. Recommended: T shirts, shorts and some warm clothes.
  • Rain jacket or poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Cusco).
  • Strong, comfortable footwear.
  • Water bottle
  • Flashlight and batteries.
  • Hat or cap to protect you from the sun.
  • Sun block (sun protection cream).
  • Insect repellent.
  • Toiletries, towel and toilet paper.
  • Selection of small snacks, chocolate, dried fruit, biscuits etc.
  • Camera
  • Swimsuit (if you plan on visiting the hot springs at Aguas Calientes after the trek – entrance not included in price).
  • You also need to bring your original passport on the trail and your student ISIC card (if claiming a student discount)

IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

Extra porter: For added comfort you can count on the services of an extra porter, to carry your backpack. You must make an additional payment. The extra carrier can load up to 14 kilos, not walking with you. He waits in campgrounds with all his stuff so it is important to organize a small backpack to carry the essentials. We can also provide you with a big bag to help the carrier take your things.
Cost of a porter is: 100.00 USD. 14 kg load.

You can also hire ½ porter: 60.00 USD Cost load 5 kg.

Water: We suggest you buy a bottle of water from 2 liters for the first day and use the same packaging for the whole trip. We provide boiled water for your bottle every morning. We suggest you bring purifying tablets, if you need more water you can take it from streams, waterfalls and take them with the pills.
4.-Baths along the way; On the way in the campsites there are basic toilets constructed by DIRCETUR, may be used by visitors.

Garbage: There are enough trash cans along the way. Oour porters make sure our campgrounds are clean and are constantly working to keep the trail clean. We ask you to help us.
Prohibitions It is prohibited to pick plants or collect orchids bring alcohol or other drugs, campfires, carrying poles with metal point.
Showers on the way: There is only one Winayhuayna in the last campsite, you may wish to rent. It is offered as hot, but is rather lukewarm.
If some one gets sick and needs to return (rarely happens) Our guide makes the coordination and with the help of one of the porters organize their return.
Additional Money
Provide yourself extra money (150 soles), if you need more money in Aguas Calientes there is an ATM.
